CHRISTOFLE SILVERSMITH - ANTIQUE PAIR OF SILVERPLATED BRONZE CANDELABRA - 19TH CENTURY - FRENCH BASE DIAMETER: about 16 cm Pair of candelabra with 5 + 5 lights
Charles Christofle ( 1805-1863 ) managed a house of jewelry trade and founded the house of silversmith's trade bearing his name. Parallel to his success with his products at industry trade fairs of Paris, he acquired the patents of gilt and silverplating (galvanoplasty) from Ruolz, then from Elkington, a process for which he obtained again the golden medal in the exhibition of his products at the industry trade fair of 1844. Christofle became a regular provider of the Royal family; success continued under the Second Empire, when he was regularly rewarded at various world trade fairs. After his death, Charles' house was kept by his son Paul ( 1838-1907 ) and his nephew Henri Bouilhet ( 1830-1910 ).
