FANNIERE SILVERSMITH - BRONZE SILVERPLATED CUP - CIRCA 1860
Vase executed for the Grand Prix of Paris of 1867, offered by the Emperor Napoleon III. Work of "repoussé" typical of the Brothers Fannière and bound to their exemplary artistic formation.
Refer to the book " The French silversmith's trade in 18th and 19th century " by Henri Bouilhet silversmith Paris
Ed H. laurens, publisher bookseller.
Height : about 19.5 inches
Base on a red marble Morello cherry( marbre rouge griotte)
Nephews of the silversmith Falconer, Auguste and Joseph Fannière illustrate a rare case of artistic brotherly complementarity in the field of industrial arts. Auguste enters to the School of Fine Arts and frequents the workshop of the painter Martin Drolling before devoting exclusively to the sculpture: he continues to expose regularly to the Salon medallions and statuettes besides his silversmith's activity. His younger brother Joseph is a silversmith and engarver : their complementarity seems perfectly effective.
The Museum Orsay presents pieces of the Fanniere.
